Note: y summer until I thought I was too old and then Imoved in with her during WW2, first as a single girl and later after Imarried Tom. !She was full of fun, loved to cook and did a good job except she alwaysburned her cakes, crocheted tiny intricate doilies or bedspreads. Shehad a lovely home in the best part of town, was active in her church andbefriended everyone unless someone crossed her. Then look out. Shedidn't speak to her ownsister, Jennie, for years. !She looked like a grandma was supposed to look in those days--fat, whitehair in a bun, pearls around her neck and in her ears, flowered or polkadot dress on and a clean apron. She talked to old school friends everynight before shewent to bed and hated President Roosevelt. !When I was seven years old I was stricken with Brite's Disease, a Kidney Disease. My Mother was working and I needed full time care. They rentedan apartment with an old lady who kept her eye on me (I was bedridden) whilemy parents took turns leaving the store and forcing me to drinktriple-distilled water but as soon as I was able to travel I was sent to Watertown wher Ihad my tonsils removed and then to Grandma Clark who fed me a very healthy diet of lots of vegetables and no meat. And so I washealed of this disease as few people were and I feel Grandma saved mylife. She says in a piece of a letter Helen has she was named for her "AuntKate" and her grandmother, Eliza Jane.
Note: !Grandma--what a Grandma! I lived next door or with her my first 5years, then visited ever
