Text: The Secretary of war has directed me to issue a commission, in the highest rank attained to each officer relieved from active duty after serving honorably in the Army of the United States during the recent war, who was not been issued a commission subsequent to being processed for relief of duty. The commision does not constitute a new appointment but is formal evidence of the highest military rank you recieved. It is forwarded to you with the grateful thanks and deep appreciation of the War Department.

Was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence Ks, on Feb. 27, 2004

Text: FRANCIS KENNEDY-Armed forces. Dr. Francis Maxwell Kennedy, 90 of state street in Washburn. A former mayor of Washburn, died at 7:25 pm Monday, Feb 23, 2004 at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Lacon. Born April 7, 1913 in Lawrence, Ks to Orin and Bealah May Adams Kennedy, he married Elizabeth Cowie on Nov. 22 1940 in Kasas City Mo. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Elinor (and Dave) Everitt,of Mannheim Germany, Mary Beth,(and Fred) Armentrout of Washburn and Sandra (and Mark) Gillhouse of Baraboo, Wis.;11 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister. A member of Veterans of foriegn wars, he was a World War 2 Army veteran serving in the veterinary corp. A graduate of Kansas state university. He was a practicing veterinarian in Washburn from 1946 until retiring in 1998. He was elected Mayor of Washburn in 1965 and held that position for several years. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetary in Lawrence. Amemorial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation.
