Note: T I M E L I N E 1815 -- Rafael Falero appears on a list of immigrants from the Canary Islands in the 19th century, authored by Manuel Ballesteros Gaibrois and titled, "DATOS SOBRE LA EMIGRACION CANARIA A PUERTO RICO EN EL SIGLO XIX." There is also a record of immigrant Rafael Falero about 1815 from Canary Islands In Dr. Estel Cifre's book sourced below . By 1836 he was a land owner in the Valencianos Barrio of Juncos. The film is titled 1847, however, the ages in this record make it more appropriate to 1844 based on known birthdates and this is where I have placed it. A similar census can be found on film #1511665, item 3 almost identical ages and it is labeled as for the year 1866 which is impossible since Rafael would be dead by then. 1844 Mar 18 -- D. The record shows Rafael is 56 years old born in the Canaries. Wife Mariana Machin is 50 years of age born in the Canaries. There are 8 children in the household at this time. The page is badly stained and all of the children's names cannot be read. Those that can be made out are Francisco, 18; Jose, 12; Tomas, 9; Rafael, 6. The ages of the remainig children are 16, 14, 10, and 7. All the children were born in Juncos. Rafael Falero's name appeared in the Gaceta de Puerto Rico on a list to donors to a fund being raised to build charity hospitals in the city of Madrid. His donation was 4 pesos. Rafael Falero's name appeared in the Gaceta de Puerto Rico on a list of people who contributed to a fund raised for the relief of the poor. His contribution was 30 pesos and was one of the highest made by a single individual. They had 7 children living with them, all of them single : Francisco, 33; Angel, 24; Maria de Carmen, 26; Jose, 22; Tomas, 20; Izpiana, 16; and Rafael, 14, plus Dionicio Diaz, age 5, relationship unknown. It looks like it could be Machin or Alonso 1861 Apr 28 -- Rafael Falero is mentioned in the birth and baptism of a child born to one of his slaves. Two of his children, Dionicio and either Carlina or Catalina are named as Godparents. 1862 -- TAXPAYER: Don Rafael Falero is on a list of people who paid money into a subsudy fund to support the barrio of Valenciano Abajo. This money was similar to a tax that was assigned to him based on his wealth in the community. He was number 267 on the list, living in Valenciano Abajo, and his quota was 47.40 Pesos. He died the previous day, 01 Feb 1864, in the barrio of Valenciano Abajo, Juncos, at age 74. He was a native of Fuerte Ventura , Canary Islands, Spain, the legitimate son of Don Jose Agustin (Falero) and Dona Catalina Machin, both deceased. He was married to Dona Maria Ana Machin with whom he had children: Don Dionicio, Dona Carlina, Don Estevan, Don Francisco, Dona Maria de la Concepcion, Dona Maria del Carmen, Don Jose, Don Tomas, Dona Maria Higenia, Don Rafael.
