Note: ncisco and Ruy, born in Cubilla, Portugal, were astronomers and geographers in 16th century Portugal. They left Lisbon for Spain after loosing favor with the then King, Dom Manuel I. Accompanying them was the discoverer Magellan, close personal friend of Ruy Falero, who was suppose to accompany Magellan on his circumnavigation of the globe. Ruy played an important part in the preparations for Magellan's voyage by preparing expressly for him a treatise on determinations of longitude. It is said that on the evening prior to embarkation, Faleiro worked out his own horoscope for the voyage. The stars predicted a violent death. Consequently, he remained behind. Other sources claim he went mad before the voyage, and thus did not join the expedition. T I M E L I N E DEATH: Before 1847 when wife Catalina is listed in the household of her son Rafael Falero y Machin alone. 1855 -- Listed as the husband of Catalina Machin in her death record. 1864 -- Listed as the father of Rafael Falero y Machin in Rafael's death record.
