(K=Kenneth's file, B=Bartram's file, H=Harry's file) Page 134 - K Duluth, MN. 6-10-1916 In Re. Wm. King Col. Resclie informed me that Mr. King came to Duluth from England, where he left the mother of our three King boys, his first wife, and brought another woman with him with whom has a family of children. He lived at Superior with this woman while the boys were in the Children's Home in Duluth. He there moved to some place in Iowa where he is said to be a preacher. He was brought back to Duluth on a charge of non-support but told Judge Ensign a story of hard luck and made the judge believe that he had made an effort to support the children but according to a combination of circumstances he had been unable to do so, and that it would be impossible for him to provide for the boys in the children's home. P.S. Ivaccson Agent Page 2-K In the Matter Of Kennith, Bartram and Harry King, Dependent children The case named above came before the Juvenile court on the 17th day of September, 1910, for disposition, J.A. Sinclair, Esq., appearing as attorney for and in place of William King, and it appearing to the court that the said children had been supported by the public for the last five years with little help from Mr. King, and at the present time the said King owes the Children's Home one hundred eighty five dollars, and is unable to pay the same or the board of the children in the future that the children are illegible children, and have no relatives or friends willing to care for them; That Mr. King has a family in Iowa dependent on him for support, the court found the said children dependent and made its order committing them to The State Public School in Owatonna. Nina wrote a letter to the Superintendent of the State School on Nov.11th., 1912, inquiring about the boys. Dear Sir, For some time I have intended on writing you about the three boys named King, sent you from the Children's Home in Duluth. We have, as our adopted daughter their only sister, now seven years old. As the boys are to old to forget their former life I have wanted them to know where their sister is and I thought perhaps you would tell the people who took the boys where she is so that as they grow older they may not lose sight of each other. We love our two adopted children as our very own but we also know that blood is thicker than water and we keep for them all the data we can procure. Are the boys still at the home? Our address is: W.W. Coffey 103 Custer Ave Billings, Montana Mr. Coffey is in the employ of F. A. Patrick, Duluth, Minnesota. And a letter to there would always reach me. Sincerely, Nina B. Coffey Page 114-K Mrs. Louis Herbert, their mothers sister, wrote a letter on June 24,1915 to the Superintendent of the State School inquiring about the three boys. She knew Lilian was adopted from the Children's Home in Duluth. She wanted to know where the boys were and how they were doing. Her address at the time of the letter was as follows: Mrs. Louis Herbert 3 Sea Foam Ave. Winthrop, Mass. Page 172-K and 173-K The following is another letter from Mrs.Louis Herbert inquiring about the three boys and their sister Lilian. June 24,1918 To the Supt. of the State School, Owatonna, Minn. Dear Sir or Madame, I would like very much to hear something of the King children, formerly of the children's home in Duluth but whom I understand is now in your care. They are my dead sisters children and I am their only relative in this country with the exception of their father, its a pity that we should lose track of them for so long a time. I have not seen or heard from them since the summer of 1910, when I visited them at the home in Duluth. I do so much want to hear of them and anything you could tell me would be deeply appreciated or perhaps one of them could write to me. Their names are Kenneth-Bertram-Harry and Lillian. Trusting to hear from you in the near future and thanking you for any information you may be able to give to me. I am respectfully yours, Mrs. Louis Herbert 3 Sea Foam Ave Winthrop, Mass. Page 183-K The following letter is from Mrs. W.W. Coffey to the Supt. of the State School Mrs. W.W. Coffey 328 Mango Promenade West Palm Beach, Fla. June 6,1926 Supt. State School Dear Sir, I am writing to ask if you will give me the address of any or all of the boys of the King family, sent to you from the Children's Home in Duluth, Minnesota about 1908(our papers are in the safety deposit vault-and I can't remember the exact date). We took their sister Lillian, now Elizabeth Coffey. We have always told her that after she finished high school we would look up her brothers and she has just finished her second year of College and now feels that she would like to know something of her brothers. We were in Duluth three years ago just after one of them had visited the home. If we can get in touch with one perhaps he knows where the others are. Have you any idea where the father is? We do not especially care as he never even cared whether Elizabeth had a good home or not. She is our adored daughter of our home and a most lovely girl.
