LIVED IN ALLEGHANY COUNTY AT RYAN'S GLADE (NOW GARRETT COUNTY), MARYLAND FOR A SHORT TIME AROUND 1790. SOLD PROPERTY ON PATTERSONS CREEK, MINERAL COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA IN 1795. PATTERSONS CREEK IS WHERE HE ENLISTED FROM IN 1778 IN THE CONTINENTAL ARMY UNDER CAPTAIN ABRAHAM JOHNSON. MOVED FROM THERE TO RANDOLPH COUNTY (NOW BARBOUR COUNTY), (WEST)VIRGINIA IN 1795. SERVED IN THE VIRGINIA CONTINENTAL ARMY DURING REVOLUTION. LISTED ON DEAKINS LIST LIVING IN WHAT IS NOW GARRETT COUNTY IN 1787. John Ryan was a member of the Mt. Zion (Methodist) Church in 1788. This church is located near the area of Ryan's Glade (Garrett County, Maryland). The original church was held in a school house which burned down in about 1870. The church was rebuilt but is no longer in existence, having burned to the ground again in the 1990's and not rebuilt.
