Note: 0 at the Land Office at Champagnolle, AR. The Ouachita County history says "John Elliott came to [Lafayette Township] Ouachita County in AR in 1840 when there were but few settlers . He purchased a farm of his own and for his son in law of 40 acres that he lived on until his death in 1862. This farm was for many years was one of the old landmarks, being a stopping off place for travelers from El Dorado to Camden." Page 685, The Goodspeed Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Southern Arkansas. The dates for birth and death are approximate inferred from affidavits in his and his brother Thomas' Bounty Warrants as privates in Captain William Kincaid's Company of Volunteer Light Infantry, Second Regiment (McWillie's) SC Militia. They served from 6 Oct 1814 until 7 Mar 1815. Their service files give Fairfield District SC as their place of residence and state that the place of rendezvous, Columbia, and was 27 miles from their place of residence. Bounty Warrant BLW -11757-80-55 (1812) and BLW-27857-80-50. His premption was supported by an affidavit of 3 Sep 1851...wife (marked out [Katie had died]) and 10 children [10 marked out and 4 written over 10]). He erected a house thereon a dwelling house 18 x 18 ft into which he removed with his family and household furniture and has lived in said house and made it his exclusive home from the 3rd day of Sep 1851 to the present time and has cultivated about half acre of said land." In the 1850 Ouachita County census it shows John Elliott Sr. 59, M b. SC, farmer and others of this family close by. In the census of Lafayette Township in 1860, page 131 John Elliott 68 M b. SC, farmer and on page 131 he had $6000 in real estate and $3000 in personal property. They were Presbyterians.
