Note: Philip Boyer spent his youth on his father's farm near Annville, now Lebanon Co, PA. He probably went to a German school there as the early Germans provided an education for their children. The 1940 edition of American Boyers reports that Philip was a soldier of the Revolution and this is probably true as Philip was 22 years old when the war began, but no record has been found of his service. === Philip's father, Philip Bayer, died in 1781. His will says: "It is my Will that all the Money accrueing of my real and personal Estate shall be equally divided (except all what is above excepted) between all my Children only allowing my Son PHILIP five pounds and my Son FREDERIC ten pounds and my Son PETER fourteen pounds good hard Money in Gold or Silver over and above their equal Shares." === On 18 March 1783 Adam Shally along with his brother Peter and his two sisters sold their shares of their father's land to their brother, Lucas Shally. It was about this time that Adam Shally with his stepson Jacob Breckbill and his eldest daughter, Catherine, who had married Philip Boyer sometime before 1780 and his wife Elisabeth and the rest of the children left Lebanon County and moved to German Township, Fayette Co. PA. === They are found in the Fayette Co, PA records between 1784 and 1795. === Sometime before 1796 when Philip first appears on a tax list, he and his family had moved down the Ohio River to Jefferson Co, KY, near Louisville. Philip Boyer is on on the census records for Jefferson Co in 1800, 1810 and 1820. It is hard to pinpoint where he lived, but we will quote from the deed when he purchased 365 acres of land in 1796. Floyd's Fork is near the dividing line between Oldham and Shelby Counties. === "This indenture made the seventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety six Between Thomas Smith and Abediah his Wife of the County of Jefferson and state of Kentucky of the one part and Philip Boyar of the same county and State of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Smith & Abediah his wife for and in consideration of the sum of One thousand pounds lawful money of Kentucky to them in hand paid hath and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Philip Boyar a certain Tract of Land in the County of Jefferson and State of Kentucky bounded as follows viz Beginning at two white oaks standing near the Buffaloe road about four miles northeastwardly from the Blue Licks corner to Thomas Hardin, thence with his line South fifty five degrees East two hundred and fifty three poles to his corner a Beach and Elm thence South thirty five degrees West four hundred poles to three Beeches in a line of Edward Williams Pre emption, thence with a line of the same North four hundred and thirty four poles to a red oak & water Beech, thence North therby five degrees East forty nine poles to the Beginning. === "It being the same Tract of land whereon Peter Kerns lately resided lying on the Waters of Floyds fork & Cedar Creek containing by estimation & survey the full quantity of Three hundred and sixty five acres To Have and to hold the said Tract of Land with its appurtenances unto the said Philip Boyar and his Heirs and assigns to their proper use and behoof forever and the said Thomas Smith for himself and his Heirs the said Tract of Land with the appurtenances to the said Philip Boyar and his Heirs and Assigns shall and will forever warrant and defend against all and every Person or Persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same in Witness whereof the said Parties have hereunto set their hands and seals on the day and year above written. Jefferson Co., Kentucky Deed Book 4:396 === Sometime before 1804 Philip Boyer's wife had died and he married Elizabeth Davis Shake, widow of Christopher Shake. They had been neighbors at least since 1797 when they are both listed on the tax list, Christopher living on Harrod's Creek. In April of 1809 the estate of Christopher Shake was divided by his wife, Elizabeth Shake, now remarried to Philip Bowyer. Apparently Elizabeth had died before Philip Boyer wrote his will in 1824 as she is not named. Oldham Co. had been formed from Jefferson Co. in 1823, therefore Philip's will is recorded in Oldham Co. === Donald Arthur Boyer, American Boyers, 7th ed.
