a. Note:   Hazel was born in the Bethesda Community of Trigg County Kentucky near Cadiz. She was reared on a farm as one of fourteen children of James Benjamin (Ben) Faughn and Martha Ann (Annie) Faughn. Hazel went to the Bethesda School located in the community of Bethesda. She attended school to the seventh grade. She spoke fondly of her classmates and the good times that she had. She attended school with her younger sister, Mamie Evelyn who died at the age of seven years. Hazel had seven sisters of whom six were older than she. She remarked many times of the fun of curling their hair and the happy times she had with them. As they all grew older, they loved to be together, cook, chat and enjoy each other. One of Hazel's favorite times, was to visit Cadiz and be with her sisters. Hazel's father was a farmer on a small farm in Trigg county. He worked hard to make a living for his large family and his wife by his side. Her Mother with many children to care for, also raised two grandaughters after their mother Mattie died. In the year of 1935 Hazel met William Thomas Freeman (Thomas) and they married in September 1935. Her sister Letha had married Lloyd Allen the first cousin of Thomas. Her niece Dorothy Burnam who was raised by her Mother, also married a cousin of Thomas, Henry Cain. Hazel and Thomas started their married life in a small house on the outskirts of Cadiz located on the property of Garland Cunningham, who operated the Gulf Oil Company whom Thomas worked for. In 1937, their only child, a daughter, Betty Jane was born in March. They remained at this residence until the year of 1940 when they moved to Evasnville. Hazel and Thomas resided on the West Side of Evansville and Hazel enjoyed many friends and family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Evansville. Hazel had many talents. She loved to sew, cook and took pride in herself and her family. Her greatest joy was an afternoon visit with her sister Alpha Lou. Hazel lost her husband in 1963 and he was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. She at that time obtained a job with Mead Johnson Terminal in Evansville and worked as a janitor in their office building. She remained there until she became ill in 1969 with a incurable kidney ailment. Hazel died in May of 1970 and is buried beside her husband Thomas in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Evansville, In. ============ MT VERNON DEMOCRAT May 1970 MOTHER OF A LOCAL RESIDENT DIES THURSDAY Mrs Hazel L Freeman, 54, of Evansville, the mother of a Mt. Vernon resident, died at 3:53 a.m. Thursday at Evansville Deaconess Hospital.
  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Jane Sellers of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Gray and Mrs. Lloyd Allen of Cadiz, Ky; three brothers, Adolphus, Zan and Alfred Faughn of Cadiz, Ky; and four grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel in Evansville. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville.
  Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Saturday. ==============
