a. Note:   r old Jacob Schultz when she was 19. She then had eleven children by Jacob and died at the age of 41 when her youngest child was only four years old. Our family records show that Jacob and Marie were married in Princeton, N. J. on July 8, 1818 and that their son, Isaac, my great grandfather, was born April 18, 1828.
!Jacob was a graduate of Union College in 1813 and of the New Brunswick Seminary in 1816. (1). His first pastorate was in Lebanon, N. J. where according to (2) "The modern history of the church or the period when the preaching was altogether in English, began with the pastorate of Rev.Jacob I. Shultz who according to his own record in the church book, accepted a call from the United Congregations of Rockaway and Rockaway in Lebanon, September 29th, 1816, and was ordained and installed their pastor on November 26th, 1816. The last baptism performed by Mr. Shultz was on April 25th, 1835". He then went to Middlebush where Miss Elizabeth Van Liew notes "Dec. 30, 1834, Tuesday. Rev. Jacob I. Schultz was installed as pastor of the Reformed Dutch Church at Middlebush." She further notes "August 19, 1838. Mr. Schultz preached his last sermon at Middlebush." (3) He was forced to retire in 1838 because of an"organic disease." (1) In writing about the Middlebush Cemetery (Cedar Grove) inscriptions, Jacob Wyckoff, of Middlebush, N. J. said "Burials of various neighboring families were continued in it until 1847, when the land and adjoining farm was owned by Rev. Jacob I. Schultz, who had been pastor of the Middlebush Reformed Dutch church from 1834-1838. Guardians of Mr. Schultz, who was ill, sold the burying-ground in 1847 and deeded it to the congregation of the church named." (4) He and Marie had eleven children.

Maria probably lived a fairly sheltered existence, first as the daughter of a respected farm and mill owner and then as the wife of a minister. Yet life must have been hard: raising eleven kids couldn't have been easy; her youngest son died in 1837; her husband had to resign his pastorate in 1838 due to ill health; and, she herself died only two years later.
Gulicks of the USA states that Maria, daughter of John Gulick and Margaret Van Dyke married Jacob Schultz.
