Note: Robert Wallace and family appear on the "McCabe" petition to Col. By of 5 Feb 1829. In addition to Robert there are 4 males and 3 females. They emmigrated from the townland of Kiltoghert in Leitrim Co. In addition are mentioned two Rossman brother-in-laws as potential immigrants to Canada. Several months later a second petition was sent from Bytown to Quebec City and consisted mainly of those who appeared on the first petition with families. On this second petition Robert appears with 4 males and 2 females. This would account for the 6 known children: John, Rachael, Benjamin, Joseph, Emma and Jacob. It is possible that the missing female was Robert's wife Ann who had died in the interval between the two petitions. The Church of Ireland Kiltoghert parish records show only the baptisms of the first two children John and Rachael. Robert's obituary indicates that he was raised in the Church of England but as a young man was converted to Methodism. It is possible that this occured after the birth of Rachael and subsequently the Wallace family attended a Methodist church for which no records survive.
