  Was listed as a carpenter on his death certificate. But was listed as a farmer when Anna Cecilia was born in 1878, Caroline in 1876, George in 1874. Was listed as a "gentleman" when his son, Markus was born in 1887.
  Lost his right arm in a sawmill accident in Bloomingdale. This is apparent in the large family photo that I have framed
  In the 1881 Census, he was 38 and a laborer. He and his entire family were born in Ontario. Anna was 35. His children were: Mathias 15, Serafina 13, Alexander 11, Edward 9, Otilia 7, George 6, Caroline 4, Cecilia 2 and Albin 7 months.(Woolwhich p. 34 - 35)
  In the 1891 Census, he was listed as 47, born in ON and a laborer. His wife was Annie who was 42. children were listed as: Sarah, 23 a glove sewer Edward 19 a mattressmaker Matilda 18 George 16 Carolina 14 William 12 Albin 10 Hannah 8 Lucina 6 (A5Berlin p. 41-2)
  Died of heart disease; he had had dropsy for 3 months before he died. His death was registered by Edward Fehrenbach, a mattress maker in Berlin. He was only 50 when he died.
  In 1884, he was listed as living in Bloomingdale in the Upper Block lot 71 and he was a carpenter.
