Took care of an old Lady and received part of her estate and then came to United States with her Sister. OBITUARY - 1943 Newspaper - Marshall, Minnesota MRS. ALPHONSE VAN DORPE Mrs. Alphonse Van Dorpe, resident of Lyon county for 29 years, passed away at her home in Minneota on May 9. Death was caused by a heart attack. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 13, at St. Edward's church in Minneota and were conducted by Father Casey of Minneota. Interment was made at Ghent. Pallbearers were H. J. Tillemans, Alphonse DeCock, Harry Moorse, Cyril Hammerlinck, Ben Van Hyfte and Frank DeSmet. Benonia M. Van Halst was born in Gulleghem, Belgium, February 21, 1884, a daughter of Leopold VanHalst and Louise Demyttenaere. She came to the United States in March of 1906. On May 6, 1908, she was married to Henry Fonteyn, who preceded her in death February 4, 1930. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Fonteyn, two of whom preceded their parents in death. Aloyiuis died at the age of seven and one half years and Marion died at the age of 22 months. (((This is an error - her name was Marie - per birth record, grave marker and her brothers and sisters))) There are four daughters and two sons left to mourn her. They are Anna (Mrs. Loren Schoonover) of Los Angeles, Calif., Mary (Mrs. Nick Mosch) of Marshall, Leo Fonteyn of Minneota, Elizabeth (Mrs. Glen Keith) of Los Angeles, Calif., Louise (Mrs. Bernard Doyle) of Milroy, and Pvt. John Fonteyn of Drew Field, Fla. There are also 11 grand-children and a sister, Mrs. Paul Lams of Detroit, Mich., and a host of friends. On August 6, 1938, Mrs. Fonteyn was united in marriage to Alphonse Van Dorpe, who also preceded her in death on January 21, 1943. Her two daughters, Mrs. L. Schoonover and Mrs. Glen Keith of Los Angeles and her son, Pvt. John Fonteyn of Drew Field arrived too late for the funeral. Out of town relatives and friends who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Doyle of Milroy, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Mosch and children, Mrs. John Fonteyn, Mrs. Peter Mosch, Sr., Mrs. Fred Ensign, Mrs. Margaret Greenwood, Mrs. Lars Nielsen and Gaston Geldhof, all of Marshall. Mrs. Fonteyn will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was very active until about a year before her death when her health began to fail. OUR MOTHER M is for her memories we all hold so dear.
