a. Note:   1830 U S Census Pickens Co, SC, p.265, NAM No M-19, roll 173. 1 Jun 1834 George W Phillips bought property for $150.00 on little Toxaway Creek near to long man mountain from Benjamin Burton. As part of the agreement the ownership was not to be transferred for a period of 2 years. If Burton delivered 300 gallons of merchantable whiskey during that period, the sale of property was null and void. Phillips' brother in law James Ferguson and Andrew Ferguson (James' father) were witnesses. (Pickens Co, SC DB A, pp 6-7.
  15 Nov 1837 Jabez Ferguson sold 75 acres on south side of Col Fork the watering hole to George W Phillips for $140.00. Property originally granted to Andrew Ferguson, Sr. the 25 Dec 1823. Jabez Ferguson and Rowland Cobb warrant and defend land. wit: John Adair James Ferguson. (Pickens Co, SC DB A, p. 499).

  3 Dec 1855 James Ferguson was bound to the Pickens Co, GA court as guardian of the property both real and personal coming to Paschal, Cynthia M, Rhoda, William, Posey and Wilburn Ferguson, minors on account of the estate of Andrew J Ferguson, late of Green Co, AL, decreased. (Pickens Co, GA Will Book A, p. 17).

  13 Mar 1863 P.F. Ferguson, temporary administrator for the estate of James Ferguson petitioned the court fo appoint a group to set apart 12 months support for the widow and children of James Ferguson who died on 5 Jan 1863. (Pickens Co, GA Court of the Ordinary Probate Records, p. 246).
  10 Jan 1866 P.F. Ferguson, Len W Hall, John W Ferguson are bound to the ordinary of Pickens Co to make an inventory of the estate of the late James Ferguson (Pickens Co, GA Court of the Ordinary Probate Records, pp. 203-204).
  5 Aug 1867 Wilborn Ferguson appeared in court stating that he was 14 years old and the son of James Ferguson deceased. He petitioned the court to have Benjamin J Wofford appointed as his guardian. (Pickens Co, GA Court of Ordinary Minutes Aug Term 1867).
  Sacred to the memory of James Ferguson, born Sept 4 1804 in Spartanburg Dist., SC, died Jan 5 1863, age 58y 7m 1d, has been a devoted member of the Missionary Baptist Church since the year 1825. He was well beliked by all who knew him and died a meek and humble Christian. Remember man as you pass by as you are now so once was I as I am now so you must be prepare for death and follow me.
