Note: "Shorty" or "Doc" worked around farm machinery his whole life. Most of his adult life he worked at Nome Supply Company with his nephew, Roscoe Wharton, and his brother Maurice Earl Hunter. He was the parts manager, but a good mechanic in his own right. Doc loved to hunt and fish, especially fond of setting trout-lines in the rice irrigation canals around the Beaumont area. Although he didn't finish the 9th grade, he was quite alert and intelligent. He worked hard to insure that his children all had a good home and a good education.
