Note: World War II -- Served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Southern France, and into Austria at end of war with 1st Infantry Division. Had memory of seeing famous Lippizaner stallions perform in Vienna, Austria at special show staged for allied troops who had liberated Vienna. Enjoyed seeing movie "To Hell and Back", story of Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphey, as he had met Audie Murphey during war, and was from same unit. Was driver for unit commander. Recalled being at battle of Anzio, Italy and beach landing there. Worked for many years as machinist for Conway Tap and Die, part of Millers Falls Tools. Also worked for Greenfield Tap and Die. Also sold shoes for Mason Shoes, a catalog mail-order shoe maker. Had many friends around local towns due to this activity, causing his wife to complain that going shopping with him was a problem, as he couldn't walk down the street without meeting someone he knew and stopping to talk to them. Therefore what should be a half hour shopping trip turned into a whole morning's social event.
