Note: N4 Married St. Catherine Church Obituary (Erie Times-News from 7/11/2007 - 7/12/2007): Manuel "Manny" Figueira Famous Erie Barber. Manuel "Manny" Figueira, 85, of 3002 Post Ave., Erie, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West following a brief illness. He was born in Maui, Hawaii, August 10, 1921, son of the late Francis Neves Figueira and Anthony Figueira. He attended Maui High School and served in the United States Army during WWII. Manny had been a self-employed barber for 60 years in Erie. He was a lifetime member of Erie Maennerchor Club, Elks Lodge, charter member of South West Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Billy Simpson Post 470. He enjoyed golf, boating, bowling and jazz music. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four sisters, Cosie, Elsie, Marie and Ludy; four brothers, David, Anthony, John and Albert; and a stepfather, Manuel Silva. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Arlene Figueira; two daughters, Sandra Figueira and Denise Johnston; two grandchildren, Daniel and Suzanne Johnston, all of Erie; a brother, Lawrence, of Hawaii; and two sisters, Claira and Matilda of Hawaii; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the new Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and may attend services there in the All Faiths Chapel on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Harry Johns, III, officiating. Burial will be at Whispering Pines Cremation Garden.
