  Obituary of Samuel Kilgore:
Departed this life on Saturday the 24th day of January, 1857, at the residence of his son, M.T.G. Kilgore in Ellisville, Jones County, Mississippi in the seventieth year of his age, Samuel Kilgore.
The deceased was a native of Darlington District , S.C. He lived there until the bloom of manhood, when he went from there to Louisville, Ky. where he remained but a short time. He removed from thence to Jones County in Mississippi in the year 1814, where he remained up to the time of his death.
One of the oldest citizens of the county, long known and much beloved, he was admired by all, not an enemy is left to say aught against him, but a large family connection and numerous friends unite in mourning his loss. But why lament his exit when we have every reason to believe that that which is immortal is enjoying true bliss of an eternal world.
While we have lost an old and valued friend, we feel assured ---------ded to the throng that sing eternal praises to God around his burning throne."
  A FRIEND Darlington Flag, March 4, 1857

According to the Darlington Historical Comm. this is true.

Deed acknowledged. Dower relinquished by Elizabeth Kilgore Recorded 9-22-1855, Joel E. Welborn.
One of the stories was that Samuel and Elizabeth walked from S.C. to MS. in 1814.
