a. Note:   Kentucky. His parents moved to Detroit, Michigan when he was eight. Shortly thereafter, Bill's father joined with the Canadian Army in WWI. He died in France. Bill and his mother, Mitzi, remained in Detroit. Bill went to Detroit Business Institute and graduated with a degree in business. He was also a fine artist and writer. He rose from the ranks of Detroit Edison beginning as a copy writer to eventually become the speech writer of Walter Cisler, the company CEO. In addition, Bill was "on loan" to the Fermi Power Plant in Ann Arbor, Michigan for five years. As head of public relations, he wrote most of the education material on atomic energy. He was the director of the Detroit Television Round Table for 3 years; American Speakers Club, president of the Industrial Editors of Detroit and vice-president of the International Council of Editors. He also produced a play he had written for the Detroit Edison Players.
