In his 1994 reprint of the Barnet, Vt Town History, David Warden states that Benj was not the son of Peter & Elmina as stated on his mc & gs; but, was actually the son of Zadock Lafoe (pp.388,702). However, he gives no references or reason for his belief.
Zadee & Sarah Lafoe did record at Barnet, Vt the -Sep 15 1860- birth of a son named "Lewis B Lafoe" [BVRbc(blue schl dist 9 recs)]
The only other BVR for "Lafoe" is BVRmc(blue schl dist 7 recs): "Zadock Laffoe, AE 35" to "Mary Valley, AE 18" on Dec 06 1859 by A.H. House, Baptist Minister; it was his 3rd m. and her 1st.
However, the 1880 census lists Lewis Lafoe AE19, b.Can living in his father, Zadock's HH in Stannard. It also lists Benjamin L Gadley AE19, b.Vt living in Albert F Lawrence's house in Passumpsic.
