a. Note:   William Gaffney and his family traveled to Tasmania in 1850 on
 the Maria Somes a ship transporting prisoners to Tasmania. The Maria Somes left from London in August 1850. William was employed as a prison guard for the Military Pensioners Regiment. In 1858 William and Sarah and family boarded the Marchioness in Port Phillip in Melbourne and relocated to New Zealand, finally settling in Featherston in the Wairarapa New Zealand. William Gaffney died in Greytown, see his death certificate. The evidence is available of his wife Sarah Jones on Familysearch Australia and also Port Phillip Victoria passenger out archive.
