"THE DANIEL HORTON FAMILY Daniel Horton, b. abt 1775; d. abt Jan. 1854; Will probated Mar. 1854; he m. abt 1798, Nidsey ........, b. abt 1778. They were among the well-to-do earliest pioneer settlers, settling on lots no. 159-160 in 23rd district north of Louvale, and he also owned at his death, lot no. 160 in the 33rd district, all the land was adjoining. Daniel Horton owned three slaves in 1850 census. In his will he names Jesse and Wiley B.; grandson Joseph, who was living with him in 1850 census; great-grand-daughter Elizabeth Ann, wife of Alexander Johnston. Daniel stated he had lived with his wife Nidsey, 50 years. There were doubtless other children for whom he had already provided. There was no further record of his wife. They were probably active in organizing of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in 1851 as well as giving land for same and are probably buried there in unmarked graves.
Coming with their parents were their sons Jesse and Wiley B., the 1840 census shows Daniel (T.) with 2, Jesse with 12, and Wiley B. with 9. Living with Daniel (T.) and wife in 1850 was Rhoda O'Quinn,(b.1771). In 1841 he made tax return for Elizabeth Horton as guardian...."
Note: The last paragraph would have been correct as the youngest son, Joseph, died in Washington County, Georgia in 1826, leaving only the older two for the 1840 census. The brackets contain editorial additions. Also, the addition of the initial "T" is from the 1850 Census where it resembles an Old German "G" or an English "V" as well as the added "T" which is from another unrelated document.
This is the poineer Horton who built the "dog-trot" log cabin near Louvale, Ga. which was later transported to the library in Columbus where it remained for a number of years and was later returned to it's original location in Stewart County.

  Marge,
Thanks for the Horton data you sent and also the interesting pictures. No, I have no clue as to who they are, must be relatives somewhere along the line.
Here is some info I have on our Daniel and family. Most of this was taken from an old letter that Mary Horton Osborn, daughter of Wiley, copied out of the old Horton Bible and sent to her sister, Elizabeth Horton Womble, in 1867.
Daniel Horton, born circa 1775, died Stewart Co. Ga., Feb. 2, 1854. His wife, Mary ? born circa 1778, died Stewart Co. Ga. on Nov. 22, 1859. Don't know where the T. came from in Daniel Horton's name. I have never seen that before. I have copies of his signature on two different items and he did not use a "T". Also as for his wife, that Nidsey bit is wrong. In Daniel's orginal will, he names her as Mary, it is Mary on the census record, and in an old letter, Mary Horton Osburn lists her grandmother's name as Mary. Daniel and Mary Horton had three sons: Jesse Horton born circa 1798 and died Feb. 22, 1857, Wiley B. Horton, born Jan. 10, 1800, died Oct. 21, 1863, Stewart Co. Ga. and Joseph L. Horton born circa 1802, died Washington Co. Ga., Mar. 15. 1826. On your sheet for Jesse, you have Joseph L. and Mary listed as children of Jesse. In fact, they are children of Wiley B.!!
Now as to Wiley: Wiley B. Horton (birth date and death date given above) married Pency Sims on Sept. 24, 1823 in Macon ,Ga. Pency, born Ga. circa 1804, still alive as of 1880 census, living with son Joseph L. Horton in Montgomery Co. Tx.
Wiley and Pency(Sims) Horton were parents of thirteen children: (1). Henry P. Horton, July 3, 1824 died Nov. 7, 1826. (2) Joseph L. Horton, June 4, 1826, died Mary 13, Montgomery Co. Tx, married Martha Osburn on Apr.14,1852, Stewart Co. Ga. (3) William R. Horton Oct 13, 1828 died May 5, 1897, Milam Co. Tx. married Jane Osburn , Dec. 15, 1855, Stewart Co. Ga. (4). Mary B. Horton, Sept 15, 1830, died ? married Green A. Osburn , Apr. 15, 1853 Stewart Co. Ga. (5). Clarissa A. Horton, Aug. 13, 1832 died Sept 15, 1836, (6) Martha L. Horton , Sept. 3, 1834, died Sept. 20, 1836 (7) John B. Horton, May 19, 1836, died Jan. 9, 1864, Union Prison , Rock Is. Illinois Civil War. (8) Jesse D. Horton July 11, 1838, died Henderson Co. Tn. Aug. 15, 1921, married Frances Grissom (9) Lewis D. Horton (twin of Jesse) July 11, 1838, died Feb. 14, 1907, Henderson Co. Tn. married Margaret Stubbafield (10) James J. Horton , May 19, 1840 died 1862, in Stewart Co. Ga. unmarried. (11) Isaac F. Horton Mar 23, 1842 , died early 1900's, Cleveland, Tx. married Nancy A. Grissom on Nov. 7, 1866, Henderson Co. Tn. (12) Clarissa L. Horton Apr. 21, 1844 died ?, married John Thompson. (13) Sarah E. Horton Apr. 26, 1846, died in Tx. in 1915 , married Henry W. Womble, Stewart Co. Ga. on Sept. 23, 1860.
My direct line continues on through William R. Horton , son of Wiley. I can give you that info if interested. Hope you can make some sense out of this rambling.
  Hudson
