  Earl Carlyle Clark taken in by his uncle when his father died. His mother couldn't afford to keep him, and his older sister was easier to care for in her millinery shop. When she remarried and wanted him back, Granddaddy Doyle took to his bed and said he would die if they took his boy away. He went by Doyle for all his life, although he only made it official when he was going off to war.
  His sister never knew she was adopted until she tried to get a passport. Ganga (Earl) had to drive to Edina, Minnesota from Flint to tell her. We believe she was the illegitimate daughter of Mr. Milliken, who owned the store in Charlotte where Granddaddy Doyle was living at the time. His legitimate son became governor of Michigan. His full genealogy is on file with the LDS church as he is distantly related to a former head of the church.[Choi.ftw]
