Note:   Hi,
You don't know how excited I am to hear from a Gappa that I'm actually related to!! Their are alot in Iowa but
I haven't been able to connect them to Michael.
I'm so glad to hear from you. Frank Gappa was my Dad's (Edwin) Uncle. Frank was a very interesting person.
He arrived with his Mother and Father on May 16, 1866 to New York City from the port of Bremen, Germany.
He was 8 years old. The ship was the Bark Johanna, the passenger list also has a Casimir Gappawho was 2 years old. On the passenger list they spell Gappa (Gappe). Their family came over with Antonia's sister and her husband
their names are Stanislaus & Johanna Badura. Their children were Frank Badura 2 and Casimir Badura 4 mths.
According to Michael Gappa's obituary they lived in Stratford, Illinois, St. Paul, Minnesota and finally settled in St. Lucas - Wacoma Iowa area. Frank married a Mary Meyer on March 25, 1880, Mary was a widow and had a boy and a girl named Martin 3 and Margaret 1. Unfortunately Mary died not to long after that, not sure when. in 1887 Michael, Antonia, Frank and Margaret moved to Nebraska. To Howard County, the Paplin Area, near
Ashton. I know he married Rose Wardyn and had your grandfather, Joe, Marie,Clementine Caroline. It seems to me that there was a huge age difference between them, and my Uncle Albert said that they divorced because Rose wanted to bootleg whiskey and Frank didn't want to do anything illegal. My Uncle had a sharp memory but it would be interesting for me to hear if you heard anything about that. When doing research I found you can't
believe everything you hear. I like to double check my information if I can. I'd be glad to send you some of my
info. Do you live in Nebraska? I live south of Wichita, Kansas have been here for 25 years but I still consider
myself a Nebraskan. I hadn't looked at my genealogy information for a while I kind of got stuck trying to find out
if Michael Gappa had any brothers or sisters that came to the USA. I wish I had a picture of Frank. I do have a picture of Michael and Antonia. Email me back and let me know what you think. Thanks Again, Donna
