a. Note:   He was a boyhood friend of his daughter Frances' father-in-law Thomas Garrett. Like Garrett, he was an agent with the Underground Railroad, harboring escaped slaves on his farm. These slaves were sent to him along a route passing from Thomas Garrett to Garrett's brother and then to him (Sellers).
  He sat at the head of the Darby (Quaker) Meeting. John Greenleaf Whittier was once a guest in his home. Before signing a will he made a point of reading it to everyone to make sure that they considered it fair.
