a. Note:   According to the 1870 Census, Henrietta could not write. At that time, she was living with a Joseph Slade, age 76,a farmer, and Betsy Slade, age 89. Henrietta was their housekeeper. Her name was Furnell and age is listed as 60.
  Henrietta's parents were both born in Connecticut and as of 1850 still lived in Weathersfield, Wyoming Co., NY. In the 1820/1830 Census, her father's name was spelled Jesse.
  Other than the fact that the Howes lived next door to Joseph and had a daughter of the same age group as Henrietta, the other form of documentation that she was a Howe is in the tombstone inscriptions of Darius and and John.
  In later years, after Uriah's death, she moved to Batavia, where many Howes had lived since 1830.
