Note: 8-25-99 ...I received a response to my query on the York County Forum Bulletin Board from Michael W. Lau (mwpelau@@aol.com). He provided me with the dates of birth and death of Ira. Ira's obituary is in the York Gazette on November 7, 1891 A copy of the obituary was sent to me by Joanne Murry ) ( 717-285-4822) and is filed in the Sechrist binder. Mr. Lau informed me that Ira's and Barbara's children were baptized at the Yellow Reformed Church in Springfield Twp and he appears in the 1880 Census for that township. The following is a narrative prepared by Dr. Fred Zimmer of Ft. Myers, FL 1986: "Ira A. Sechrist Born 23 Dec 1845 Died York, York CO., Pennsylvania Ira first appears in the 1860 York County Census as a 15 year old day laborer in the home of Daniel Koller, 36, who has a wife, Frances, 27, and four children in Glen Rock Boro. There were no other Sechrists in Glen Rock or Springfield Twp at that time, although several were in adjacent Shrewsbury Twp, including 2 teenage men, Orlando and Sylvester, whose ancestor we do not know. Ira and Barbara Sechrist are in the 1880 Springfield Twp Census with 3 children. ( that would be Henry, Jacob and Emma)". Ira was a farmer in his early years married to Barbara. February 2001 Ronald Seaks( Deercalbr@@aol.com) is a second cousin of mine who saw my posting on a genealogy website. His grandfather is Daniel Sechrist who is the son of Ira A. Sechrist. He provided information on his family which is recorded. February 22, 2001. I wrote to Pennysylvania Vital records for copies of the birth certificates of Ira and Barbara Caslow. The request was returned with my check. The records there begin with 1906. March, 2001 Pam Byers emailed( Pmby@@yahoo.com). She found in the 1900 Census of Red Lion Boro-pg.77B- West High Street for Jacob Dietz, married to Emma Sechrist. Emma and her sister, Bertha, stated that their father was born in Ireland. This does not seem plausible. I still feel that he came from Germany. York County Heritage Trust ( www.Yorkheritage.org) Wrote to Pam Byers and Ronald Seaks asking them to look for a marriage certificate for Ira and Barbara. January 19, 2002 Email from Stillysgarage@@aol.com ( Ken Stillinger) who is related to William Sechrist who married Anna Stillinger in York, Pa. The 1850 Census of York, PA. Jacob Caslow 29 Luisa, wife, age 25 Catherine Caslow age 2 William Gans age 12 Iric Irick Sechrist age 5 Ed Morril believes that the wife Luisa was really Lucy Ann Gantz. He states that Ira was a broom maker in Hanover Junction which is just South of the present Seven Valleys of Springfield Twp in York County. Ira appears in the York County June 20 1860 Census: ( Glen Rock Borough) Daniel Koller 36 Francis, wife, 27 Ira age 16 4 other children June 27, 2002 Lettie Wambaugh (LGaia@@ix.netcom) offers to do Will lookups for York 1749-1900. I asked her to do a lookup for Ira. She did and found nothing.
