Notes
a. Note:   Much of the information regarding her and her family come from these letters. She mentions that she has a childless wealthy brother in London and another, married and with a large family, working at a 'lucrative situation' in the Customs House in Dublin. She also mentions that she has never seen any of her in-laws.She appears from her letters to have been well educated. In support of this is her statement that she 'had accepted an engagement with a Planter's family . . . to prepare two little boys for college.'Her last known letter was written to her sister-in-law, Agnes, on 19 October 1833. In it, she politely turns down an offer to come to live with them in Cole Harbour. Even though her circumstances sound dire, she says that she can not go 'without the means of defraying my expenses'.The 'History of Edwards County' (Illinois), where her daughter, Georgina, ultimately settled, states that Mary Catherine moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, where she received a land grant from the Republic of Texas for 640 acres on 3 August 1839.
Note:   There are a set of letters in the Dartmouth Museum from her to her in-laws from just after her husband death.
b. Note:   Shows her as being between 20 to 30 and with two female children, both under the age of five.
