Notes
a. Note:   Joseph was born several years before his father married Maria Gruneisen and gave the child the last name of Haas. According to Helmut L. Haas his search of church records revealed that Josef (the father) appeared before the minister in Breisach seven years after the birth of his son to say that he is the father and that he feels responsible for the boy.
Worked as a maintenance man for the railroad on the line running from Basel to Zell im Wiesental.
Burger von Schopfeim: This means that he was a citizen of Schopfeim which entitled him to certain rights.
In 1883 the whole family moved to Basel. The grandmother (Anna Magdalena) was protestant. She insisted that her six (sic) sons and one daughter should be educated in the protestant faith. This source states that further information about the Haases and Seuferts is written in "Der Wintzer" (The Winemaker) a work described as "Blattern" which translates literally to "journal" but, according to Helmut Haas, may be comprised of only a few pages.
