Notes
a. Note:   Nan Fleming, in notes made by her father, lists Caroline as Louise. I suspect that this is whom my sister, Carolyn Louise Haas Swiney, was named after.
January 6, 2004: All census records list Louise or Louisa as the wife of Edward Koetter. I suspect that this person's name is Caroline Louisa. I have found numerous instances where the middle name was the name that German Americans most often used and the name which got listed on official forms.
Death: It is impossible to make certain that the death record of Louise Koetter is actually my great grandmother. I believe this is the one, however, because she is listed on the 1920 census but not on the 1930 census. Also the location of Hamilton, OH matches. Oddly, FTM imported the date as 10 Apr 1922 but the record clearly lists the month as 7 (Jul).
In the 1860 federal census there are two Louisa Knabe's who are candidates to be my great grandmother. One born in about 1856 (listed as four years old) and the other born about 1858 (listed as 2 years old). The 1900 census, which lists Louisa as being born in May 1858 seems to confirm the latter candidate. The 1856 Louisa is the daughter of Lewis and Louisa Knabe according to the 1860 census. However, in the 1870 census Louisa is not listed. There is, however, a Lizzie listed whose birthday is off by one of Louisa's. Lizzie, 11 years old in 1870, is not listed on the 1860 census and I assme that Louisa and Lizzie are the same person. By 1880 Louisa is married to Edward Koetter and they have a son, Cornelius.
