Note: John Hackett was buried in South Laurel Hill Cemetery in Lot #352 in Section Sixteen. Laurel Hill Cemetery is a National Historic Landmark in Philadelphia. Death Notice in Public Ledger: "Hackett. On the 28th instant, John Hackett, in his 64th year. The relatives and friends of the family, Cohocksink Beneficial Society, and employees of Baeder, Adamson & Co. are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, from his late residence, 1916 East Cumberland Street, below Jasper, on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. To proceed to Laurel Hill." We copied this death notice from microfilm at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania Library in Philadelphia in September, 2004. We also copied cemetery records from microfilm at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania Library in Philadelphia in April, 2004; and we visited Laurel Hill Cemetery in September, 2004 where the very helpful staff copied cemetery records stored in their vault for us. Also buried in his plot were: Mary A Hackett (buried 1899), his second wife; Lester W Hackett (buried 1932); Isaac W (buried 1909) and his wife Ella (buried 1930); and Elmer (buried 1961) and his wife Harriet E (buried 1960). Isaac was a son of John Hackett, and Lester and Elmer were sons of Isaac. There is a headstone for John and Mary on their gravesite in South Laurel Hill Cemetery. The 1880 Philadelphia City Directory by Gopsill's lists John Hackett gluemaker, house 267 E Cumberland. The 1880 census also lists John as a glue manufacturer with his wife Mary A and a servant from Ireland at the same address. Mary A Hackett appears to have been his second wife. This address is located just one block from the address which was listed for his son Isaac Hackett. His death was also listed on FHL 1003711 p 258. Marriage listed in the church records for the First Presbyterian Church of Kensington at the library of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (Ph 12P:3 on shelves in Pennsylvania Room). The church was located on Girard Avenue in Philadelphia.
