Pendergraft: Silas went west to hunt gold and the Indians found him in Death Valley, nursed him back to good health. Then gave him gold to buy 640 acres of land and to build and buy stock in Sullivan County, Missouri. He was bitten by a rabid dog on the way home and only lived three months after reaching home.
