a. Note:   [from Walnut, IA newspaper obituaries, Dec. 17, 1942] Peter Hagge, 65 Takes Own Life By Shooting Friday
  Peter Hagge, a lifelong resident of this city died at his home last Friday from a self-inflicted gun wound. Worry and despondency is believed to have caused the rash act. He shot himself in the temple but lived for about an hour after the shot was fired.
 Peter H. O. Hagge, oldest son of Henry and Maggie Hagge passed away December 11, 1942 at his home in Walnut, Iowa at the age of 65 yrs, 1 month 25 days.
  He was born at Walnut, Ia. Oct. 16, 1877 and spent his entire life here. He clerked many years for Madsen Bros., also for T. McMahon, Albert Johnson's and Sons and Vern Howe. Since then he has been a Clothing salesman and sold paint for while.
  He helped organize the Walnut fire department and at one time was fire chief. He has been a member of the A. O. U. W. lodge and was their financier for many years.
  Those left to mourn his death are his mother and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Bay and Mrs. Bertha Madsen of Walnut and one brother,. George A. of Glendale, Cal.
  Funeral cervices were held from the Rieck funeral home at 2 o'clock Sunday, Dec. 13, Rev. C. E. Gabler in charge.
  Mrs. Melvin Jacobsen and Mrs. Phyllis Brindley sang ''Rock Of Ages'' and "Abide With Me". Interment was made in the Walnut cemetery, Pallbearers were A. J. Hansen, Ernest Soll, Henry Behrens, Hans Petersen, Jens Ingwersen and Wm. Carstensen.
