Note: [from the Walnut paper obituaries, June 2, 1965] Services Held On Wednesday For Chris Buttenschon Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Berthusen Funeral Home in Walnut for Chris Hans Buttenschon, lifetime Walnut resident. Mr. Buttenschon passed away at the Atlantic hospital on May 31 where he had been hospitalized since May 5 when he suffered a fall at his home, fracturing his pelvis. Rev. Fred Fieker officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Harvey Jessen, August Schwanke, Henry Hansen, Freddie Matthies, Henry Kahl and Lawrence Rossmann. Music was furnished by Mrs. Lee Sievers and Mrs. Wilbert Rossmann with Mr. Melvin Jacobsen as organist. Interment was in the Walnut cemetery. Chris Hans Buttenschon Life's sunset hour came, by the permission of Almighty God, Author of life and lord over death, transplanting into life eternal the soul of Chris Hans Buttenschon. He was born in the Walnut vicinity on April 23, 1882, the son of the late Christian and Lena (Rix) Buttenschon. On Jan. 20, 1909 he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Roenfeldt. To this union three children were born. The Buttenschons made their home on a farm south of Walnut where they remained until their retirement in 1941, at which time they moved to Walnut. He was summoned to eternal rest on Monday, May 31, 1965 at 1:15 a.m. at the Atlantic Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for several weeks. All was done that loving hands and medical science could do in ministry to comfort him. He was preceeded in death by four brothers and five sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife Bertha; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Wester of Walnut; two sons, Alvin of Walnut, and Harry of the family home; three granchildren; two great grandsons; nephews, nieces, other relatives and a host of friends. He acquired the age of 83 years, one month and eight days.
