  John F. Haggerty (1872-1925) was born in Augusta, Maine. He married Mary Fonder (1875-1922). John F. was the son of F rank and Katherine Haggerty (Ireland) and (Scotland). His early manhood was spent logging down in the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon. He also spent some time searching for gold in the Klondike Gold Rush. Later, John F. and his parents and his three sisters (Maude, Clara, and Alice) and his brother (Frank) moved to a farm near Beardsley, Minnesota.
  After a short time, the father went to work in a lumber c amp in Bemidji, Minnesota, and he later died there. The mother with her family then moved to Sisseton, South Dakota, where they pur-chased the commercial hotel. She operated the hotel and boarding house for many years.
  John F. Haggerty and Mary Fonder met in Milbank, South Dakota. They were also married there on January 1, 1896. For a short time they had a butcher shop and a small bakery in Sisseton. In 1898, John and Mary took a homestead in the Veblen area and they lived in a sod shanty in the side of a hill until they could build a house. They had a family of 13 children. One child died in infancy.
  Eldred Haggerty (1896-1970) married Nafie Abraham. They had four children - Magel. Dolores. Wayne (Bud), and Thomas (Jake) (deceased). Eldred and Nafie farmed in the Hillhead a rea all their lives. Nafie died in 1950, and then Eldred moved to Washington. Magel married Robert Juran and they reside on the home farm.
  Walter Haggerty (1897-1978) taught school in Marshall County. He and his wife Elsie moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. They had four children.
  Verna (1899- ) married Knute Oland. They operated the dray line and creamery for a number of years before moving to Duluth, Minnesota. They had eleven children.
  Charlie (1901-1960) taught school in Marshall County. He married Asylda Remillard, another school teacher in Marshall County. They moved to Port Angeles. Washington. They have a family of ten
  Harold (Dick) (1902-1953) taught school in Marshall County. He operated a small grocery store and handled the mail for Hillhead. He married Bessie Vrchota and they have two daughters. He was Register of Deeds in Britton for many years before moving to Sequim, Washington.
  -Clara (1904-1942) taught school in Marshall County, also. She married Clarence Guy and they had seven children. Th ey farmed in the Hillhead area.
  Mary (1906-1951) married Harry Anderson and they have five children. They lived in Britton for several years before moving to Hoquiam, Washington.
  John (1908- ) married Josie Vrchota. They farmed in the Hillhead area for many years before moving to Browns Valley , Minnesota. They have nine children.
  Catherine (1911-1959) married Melvin Hanson of Kidder, South Dakota. They lived in Hoquiam, Washington.
  Edward (1913- ) married Alice Lyons. They lived in Hoquiam , Washington. They have nine children.
 William (Bill) (1915-1969) married Irene Bundrock of Britton. They lived in Hoquiam, Washington. They have ten children.
  Genevieve (1918- ) married Henry Abraham. They were in th e lumber business in Hoquiam for many years before moving to Sioux Falls. They have two children.
