Note: From the Ticonderoga Sentinel THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 1916 OBITUARY MRS. JULIA A. LANE Before her marriage Mrs. Lane was Miss Julia A. Durkee of Fort Edward, N. Y., where she was born on Sept. 23, 1838. At the age of nineteen she was married to Philander Norton of Glens Falls, and soon after came to Hague and made that place her home for the rest of her life. From that union there were born two sons and two daughters, of whom Mrs. Eva Shattuck, wife of Henry Shattuck of Hague, is the only survivor. Philander Norton was a member of Company A., 9 3d regiment, N. Y. State Volunteers, and died in the Army Square hospital at Washington June 1, 1864. On Sept. 8, 1865 she married Geo. Lane of Hague. Their children were Burton Lane of Silver Bay, who was drowned at that place in Sept. 1903. a few days after the death of his father. Arthur, Eldridge, Aura and Mrs. Walter Griffin. all of Hague, N. Y., and all surviving their mother. She is also survived by three brothers, Benjamin Durkee of Hague, Ira Durkee of Fort Edward and Washington Durkee of Bolton, and by three sisters and a large number of grand children. Several years ago Mrs. Lane was run over and severely injured by a team and was a cripple after, though with her wonderful vitality she was able to go about ministering to the sick and helping those in distress. She was an active member of the Baptist church of Hague. Her burial on the 21st of Nov. was in the cemetery there and the services were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Thomas de Gruchy of Ticonderoga
