Notes
a. Note:   Graves Cemetery in Guilford Nodaway Co. Missouri is probably where Nehemiah G. Herring Is buried, he lived there and there is a grave marker where it appears that the first letters of the first and last name is N H. per a letter written to Hazeldean Ballard by some one locally who visited the grave yard for her and gave her a listing of all the Herring graves in the cemetery.
I know that Mary Sharp was not the mother of any of the three oldest children and may not be the mother of any of the first six listed. Her Marriage record shows she married Green Herring on Feb. 23, 1845 in Andrew County. The 1840 Platte County Missouri census lists Nehemiah Herring with three children in age brackets that match the ages of the three oldest children.
Nehemiah Herring was appointed Guardian of Martin V. Herring and Jacob M. Herring in 1857.
Andrew Jackson's birth date on his civil war pension record lists his birth date as November 15, 1844. The 1900 census also lists his birth date as Nov. 1844.
I am convinced that the middle initial of Nehemiah G. Herring stand for the middle name of Green. It appears he used the name Green sometimes and Nehemiah sometimes, I suspect that when people could not spell Nehemiah he gave them his middle name. . I have seen listings for N. G. Herring, Nehemiah Herring, Nehemiah G. Herring and Green Herring, but I have never found any evidence of there being another Herring family in Nodaway County during this period.
There is at least one record of Green Herring serving on the Grand Jury in Nodaway County. Green Herring is listed as the father of Andrew Jackson Herring on his death certificate with his mother unknown. I have also found a rootsweb database that lists Elizabeth Jane Herring's father as Green Herring. There are several rootsweb databases that list Green Herrin as the husband of Sally (Sarah) Sharp. I will attempt to prove that Nehemiah G. Herring and Green Herring are the same person during this coming year. I hope to have convincing proof by the 2005 family reunion on September 4, 2005. Maybe by putting it on the internet someone will see it and have the proof.
