Elizabeth is listed as buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Illiopolis Township, Sangamon County, Illinois. The listing and a photo of her tombstone can be found on the Sangamon County, Illinois USgenweb Riverside Cemetery site.
also listed with her is Rebecca J. Birks. the third wife of Roland H. Birk.
The marrige of Mrs. Elizabeth J. Montgomery and Rebecca J. Brady to Roland H. Birks are listed in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index. 1763-1900.
It appears that after Elizabeth J. (Herring) Montgomery, Birks died on December
3, 1889 that Roland H. Birks married a third wife. Rebecca J. Brady on October 15, 1891. Rebecca J. Brady is possibly the widow of Samuel Brady. They are listed on the 1880 census of Geneseo, Henry County, Illinois. page number 315D.
There are several rootsweb family trees that have Roland H. Birks and his first wife Mary Ann Vandeventer listed on them. A few have Eliazabeth J. Herring listed. The first one I found belonged to Larry Youngman, because his was the only one that had her maiden name listed along with her first husband John Montgomery and her father, Green Herring.
Larry Youngman's family tree provided the clues for me to locate the
1. A Rollin Birks and Elizabeth Birks in the 1880 LDS census record in Sangamon County, Illinois.
2. The marrige record of Roland H. Birks and Mrs. Elizabeth Montgomery that was dated 09/271877 in the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index, 1763-1900 on USgenweb through Logan Co. There was also a marriage for Roland H. Birks and Rebecca J. Brady dated 10/15/1891.
3. Another family tree by George Lower that has a note for Roland H. Birks that lists biographical text from page 769 of History of Logan County, Illinois, 1886. Within the text is a paragraph that lists Roland Birks present wife as
"Mrs. Elizabeth J. Montgomery, daughter of Green Herring of Knoxville Tennessee and widow of John Montgomery."
4. The Cemetery records for Roland H. Birks and His first wife Mary Birks in Steenbergen Cemetery in Logan County illinois. since I could not find any record of Elizabeth Birks in Logan County, I looked for her on USGenWeb for Sangamon County Illinois.
5. In Sangamon County, Riverside Cemetery, I found cemetery records listing the date of death for Elizabeth Birks as well as Rebecca J. Birks.
I have concluded that Roland H. Birks first married Mary Ann Vandeventer. a little over a year after she died he married Mrs Elizabeth J. (Herring) Mongomery, and a little over two and one-half years after she died he married Rebecca J. Brady.
