Barbara has Amanda listed as the daughter of John Sweeny and brother of William Sweeny. She probably was, the skin coloration and facial structure is the same for Amanda and William in the only picture we have of them together.
Even if John Sweeny was her biological father, since she was born after her mother was divorced from John Sweeny and was legally married to Henry Asa Herring, and Henry Asa had to know that Ida Alice was pregnant when they got married, legally Amanda was a Herring. I understand from Barbara that Amanda always went by the Herring name, except on her death certificate where her sister, Rachel Katherine Viola Herring listed her father as John Sweeny. Her last name is listed as Herring on both the 1900 and 1910 census.
