Note: There is a Washington Birth index record for Marvin dated April 8, 1910. I can find not census record for him Vernon was incorrectly transribed as Marvin or Vernon and Marvin were twins and Marvin died before the 1920 census. There is no Washington Birth record for any of the other children by Asa David Gaskill and Rubie Lounsbury except the one for Marvin. The following line was found using interment.com === cemetery transription library Gaskill, Vernon W., b. 1910, d. 1963, Pines 1-56 * New England Cemetery Cheney, Spokane County, Washington Contact: 217 Third St Cheney WA 99004 509- 235-4453 Lat: 47 28' 35"N, Lon: 117 35' 35"W T23N, R41 Sec 23 Contributed by Maggie Rail, Jan 15, 2000, last edited Jun 05, 2006 [mrail@@asisna.com]. Total records = 546. New England Cemetery, (aka Spring Hill) is about 3 acres, located west of Cheney on the south side of Hwy 904 adjacent to the highway, between Cheney-Plaza Rd and Mullinix Rd. The portion nearest to town is the oldest part. The area between the gates is the final resting place for local Cheney residents. The area toward the tracks from the center road contains Eastern State Hospital, Lakeland Village and Broadacres burials. In the far southeast area is Potters Field. These areas are full but records are unclear where and who is buried there. Much of the area from Potters Field to the highway is unplatted. There are no records indicating exactly when New England cemetery was established. The cemetery was the property of the New England Undertaking and Furniture Company. Those records are in Cowles Museum in Spokane. A Mr. Knight operated the funeral home in the early 1900s. In 1930 the New England Cemetery and funeral home were sold to the Jerue family. The records did not go with the sale. When Mr. Jerue died in 1995, the funeral home was sold. However, the New England Cemetery was gifted to the Cheney Cemetery Association. Also, at this time, the Jerue books were turned over to the Association. The above account from notes of the historian of the Cheney Cemetery District. The following burial list is transcribed from the Sexton files of New England Cemetery and my survey of the cemetery, where I found many headstones no longer exist. I have a photo of all existing stones and markers as taken in May of 2006. Most are Funeral Home markers. Names followed by and asterisk * are those I found no marker for. Burials listed from 1914-1997. I first transcribed and compiled this in 1999, then again in 2006. - Maggie Rail
