Note: Tobias was a merchant and had a store in New Middleton which burned in 1851. He rebuilt it and opened another large store in 1870. The building in which his store was situated burned to the ground in 1871. In 1877, Tobias opened a large store nearby, but in August 1878 the store was robbed and burned by the burglars to prevent detection. Tobias also served as postmaster of New Middleton.
