1. Note:   After their marriage they migrated by wagon to Iowa. Returning east in the early 1850s, they settled just north of Columbia, Ohio, in Northwest Twp. on a farm later known as the Cain farm. In 1859, Jared and his family made a second wagon trip west, this time to Kansas. Following their second western venture, the family again returned to Northwest Twp. At this time Jared acquired 160 acres. This was in the early 1860s. Jared was a carpenter as well as a farmer. He served the community for many years. One local edifice on which he plied his trade was the Malcolm church, now razed but not entirely forgotten.
