Note:   Her version of the Confederacy story is that Samuel was in the Confederate Army and then changed to the Union Army; no records to prove. It is true that many Confederates were forced to take the Oath of Allegience and change sides or face consequences. The book shows another child named ________ Hahn, born about 1857 in Lewis Twp. Where did this come from? Just because there is a four year difference between Eliza and A J? Says all of his children by his first wife were born in Columbiana County.

6. Note:   The notes give the names, birth dates, marriage date, and death dates of Samuel and Nancy. There are no place names for the deaths. Samuel's five children by his first wife are listed, but there is no name for the first wife. All children are shown as being born in Darke County, Ohio. The rest of the children are stated as being born of the second wife, Nancy. However, there is a descrepancy in Delilah's birth date and the marriage date of her parents. On the other hand, Delilah is a common Harless name.

Note:   This Joseph Daniel has been mistaken in other published family trees for one of Sam's sons. He clearly is not a member of the immediate family because he is listed after Sam's six-month-old child. Daniel is written in the place where all surnames have been written. There are no ditto marks in his space to indicate the surname Hahn as there are in all previous names listed in Sam's family. Who is Joseph Daniel?

Note:   Baith gives Samuel's death place as Missouri. While it is true that the last place he is found is on the 1880 Missouri census, this doesn't prove he died in Missouri.

Note:   by James Auld JP; Samuel's name appears as Samuel Hahn, Jr. [There was another Samuel Hahn in Darke County, and his name appears with the title Sr. Our Samuel's father was Andrew. Samuel Sr. was our Samuel's 1st cousin, once removed. Often, if there were two men of the same name in a town, they would be differentiated by the titles Sr. and Jr., even if they weren't related at all.]
