a. Note:   N4516 BIRTH: Carl Otto Vold, was born on January 20, 1876, to OleHalgrimsen Vold and his wife, Brynhild Engebretsdtr., in BrookfieldTownship, Worth County, Iowa. Carl Otto wrote his name, Karl Otto, in his Norwegian Prayer Book now in the possession of Cynthia Vold Forde.
  EDUCATION: Carl Otto Vold was baptized in March of 1876 at Silver Lake Lutheran Church; he was confirmed in his faith on March 13, 1891 atElk Creek Lutheran Church on March 13, 1891. He received the education of a farmer's son and attended the country school located onthe Vold farm west of Kensett, Iowa (see 1913 Worth CountyAtlas-Brookfield Township). He learned to read in both Norwegian andEnglish; but he did not learn to write in English. Norwegian was used for home, church and business. After completion of the 8th grade he attended the St. Ansgar Seminary in St. Ansgar, Iowa, similar to current high school education.
  MARRIAGE: On June 4, 1902, he was united in marriage with Sithone(Susan) Turvold, the daughter of a neighbor, Ole Hermundson Turvold and Marta Holstad at the farm home of the bride. Following their marriage, the couple moved into his parents Vold farm home near Elk Creek Lutheran Church until 1912.
  OCCUPATION: Carl farmed with his brothers and father until his father's death in 1912. At that time, the Ole H. Vold farm was sold to Embrick Vold; Carl sold his own farm which adjoined his father's farm to the North, and he purchased a farm three miles south of Northwood on the east side of Highway 65. In 1920, he retired and moved into the Gunderson home in Northwood. Carl worked as abricklayer until 1930. They sold the large Gunderson house and purchased a house by the cemetery in trade for a debt of $75.00 owed to him by Iver Hopperstad.
  DEATH: His wife, Sithone, and all of his brothers and sisters, except Knud, preceded him in death. Carl O. Vold died on October 4, 1955 and was buried next to his wife in Sunset Rest Cemetery.
