Note: N4830 Source: Doris Severson (Al Severson's wife) Kari and Truls' Story This story was given to Doris Severson from Bernice Severson's fileduring a trip to the Severson's in Portland in June, 2001.) Kari, was married at age 20 on December 1, 1861, to Truls Vold of RiceCounty, Minnesota. He lived in Wheeling township about ten milesnorthwest of the Odegaard home. Truls had left Fl?, Hallingdal,Norway in 1852, coming to the US with his broher and married sister,Margit Hellerud. Truls' parents, Halgrim Vold and Anne Savre, born inthe late 1790's, were married in the year 1820 and established a homeon the Vold Gaard in Fl?. Here they raised five children: Margit,Severt, Truls, Ole and Ragnild. When the children grew to be youngmen and women, they contracted the epidemic 'United States Fever."Margit, who was married to Jon Hellerud, along with Severt and Truls,were the first to leave the family circle in 1852. Their parents andRagnild were never to leave Norway, but their younger brother, Ole,was to come in 1861 with his bride of one year, after selling the VoldGaard. Truls, born on December 29, 1835, was almost twenty-six years old whenhe married Kari. They met when Kari's older sister, Orlaug, married ayoung man (John Hanson) who lived very close to where Trulshomesteaded. Truls lived about a quarter mile from his sister,Margit, also. Three siblings were living within a radius of twomiles. The couples were soon joined by Trul's younger brother, Ole, (March19, 1832- September 25, 1908), who came with his young bride,Brynhild, (Sept. 7, 1837-September 25, 1912) from Norway in 181. Theylanded in Quebec and then journeyed to Rice County where they joinedtheir relatives. Here they lived for eleven years, at which time Oledecided to move south In the year of 1872, Ole and his wife, leftMinnesota and went to live in Worth County, Iowa where they lived outtheir lives. In 1932, this couple was known to have 150 descendantsin America from nine children.
