Note: Earl Baker, 90, of Ford Cliff, formerly of Slate Lick, died Monday, Apr il 6, 2009, in Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born June 12, 1918, in Sou th Buffalo Township, a son of the late Walter A. and Dorothy (Bowser) Bake r. He retired from PPG in Ford City in 1975. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Air Force in the Pacific. He was a member of Sla te Lick United Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the VFW. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling, gardening and hunting. Survivors include his son, Harold (Lois) Baker, of West Grove; seven grandchildre n; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-la w, Lynnette Baker, of Lower Burrell; niece, Jane Heasley, of Butler; and s everal nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by h is wife of 73 years, Mary Belle Baker; son, Donald Baker; grandson, Robert Baker; two brothers, Arthur and Dale Baker; and sister, Edna Mae Millen. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the SNYDER-CRISSM AN FUNERAL HOME, Kittanning. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church with additional visitation one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Mark Davis, church pastor, will be officiating. Interment will be in Slate Lick Cemetery. (Obituary from The Valley News Dispatch, Tarentum, Pa.) Earl grew-up and lived in Slate Lick until the new Route 28 took there hom e. They then moved to Ford City, Pennsylvania area. He spent most of his l ife working for Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in the Gas Department. In l ater years he did work in the plant as a crane operator and other miscella neous tasks. He served in the Air Force during World War II. He was athlet ic and pitched sandlot base ball and was an avid golfer. He also did au to repair work in the evenings. Later on he had a barber shop in his basem ent and cut hair in the evening.
