Continued: I went to the Onondaga County Public Library and found on page 1246 of "State of New York--Report of the Adjutant-General for the year 1902," in the roster for the 99th Infantry the followingentry for Owen Dougherty: DOUGHERTY, OWEN.--Age, 19 years. Enlisted, September 21, 1861, at New York city, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. I, September 24, 1861; captured in action, February 1, 1864, atBachellor's Creek, Va.; died, June 16, 1864, at Andersonville, Ga.; also bore(sic) as Doherty. He served on a gun boat on a Naval ship. Battles fought: Kinson,NC Lynn Haven Bay,VA 8 oct. 1861 Schooner ?

Continued: There was, however, an Owen Dougherty (name truncated because onlyeight letters in name field). He was a private in Company I, regiment 99 (no state given). He died on June 16, 1864 of Diarrhea C. and was buriedin grave # 2052. Some men died of diarrhea, some of diarrhea A., and some of diarrhea C. I don't know what or why the distinctions. Writer visited Andersonville March 7, 2000 and viewed the grave inSect . 2052 Simple marker... Owen Dougherty...NY They were re buried afteridentification, side by side with no coffins.
