Continued: Pen Pictures from the "Garden of the World" page 401-2: (1888) Theodore W. Petersen has been a resident of the Pacific Coast twenty-eight years, and of San Jose twenty three years. Born in Denmark, in 1837, he went to sea at fourteen years of age, and passed twelve years of his life on shipboard, and rose from cabin boy to the rank of Captain. He came around Cape Horn in 1860 as Second Mate onthe ship Ocean Pearl....conducting of the Atlantic House...in 1872 ,engaged in the manufacture of brick on the site of his present yard,in the south part of the city between Third and Fourth Streets. Herapidly built up a large business, and subsequently established abranch yard in Mountain View. In 1883 manufactured pressed brick...In 1866 Mr. Petersen married Mary Doherty, in SanJose, whose birthplace was New York. See complete article..His product was used in the construction of:Pioneer Building,Odd Fellows Hall, Union Club House, The finestbuilding in the State - The Catholic Cathedral, and City Hall in SanJose. * Several references to being born in Denmark. At time of death, itwas Germany.

Petersen, Mrs. Fred Dreischmeyer Jr., and William T. Petersen, anative of Germany, aged 64 years, 10 months and 20 days. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, whichwill take place from the undertaking parlors of L.M. Gaffney, 109 South Second Street, today (Wednesday) at 2 o'clock. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Please omit flowers. March 13, 1902, page 8, San Jose Daily Mercury FUNERALS YESTERDAY. Remains of the Late T.W. Petersen Are Buried Services were held yesterday over the remains of the late Theodore W. Petersen, who passed away in San Francisco on Monday. The funeral was held at the undertaking parlors of L. M. Gaffney on South SecondStreet, from whence the remains were conveyed direct to Oak Hill Cemetery.Mr. Petersen, who died in his sixty-fourth year, was an old and honored citizen of this valley, who has been prominent in business circles throughout his residence here. He lives a wife, Mary and twochildren, Mrs. Fred Dreischmeyer Jr., and William T. Petersen. A son, Fred T. Petersen, died some time ago. The funeral services were largely attended and were under the auspices of Mount Hamilton Lodge,A.O.U.W., of which the deceased had been a prominent member during his lifetime.
