Continued: Feb. 14, 1997, Press Democrat PAUL, Bonnie Jean (Britschgi)--Entered into rest on February 12, 1997 after a heroic struggle with cancer. The wife of the late JamesHoward "Jim" Paul, Bonnie was born on January 14, 1919 in San Jose to thelate Jack and Claire Britschgi. The granddaughter of the late William Dougherty, a prominent pioneer San Josean. Bonnie spent the biggest part of her life in San Jose until moving to Santa Rosa in 1970.During a short period in the 1930's, Bonnie lived with her family in Hollywood. She took great pride in recalling her father's accomplishments at Warner Brothers Studios as part of the team that invented "talking pictures." After returning to San Jose, sheattended San Jose and Los Gatos Highs and Heald Business College. Bonnie was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Santa Rosa, a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha national Sorority, a member of Rose Valley Chapter #33 Order of Eastern Star and a life member of theSanta Rosa Memorial Hospital Rose Ladies Auxiliary. Her greatest joys inlife revolved around her family, where she proveded love and supportwhenever needed. "She devoted her entire life to her family. She wanted everyone to know how important we were to her", recalls her daughter Susan. As a homemaker, she also enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts. Bonnie is survived by her daughters Susan Helzer and LynnMcChristian, son-in-law Bill McChristian and grandson John Helzer, all of Santa Rosa. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Emily Rudd, niece Leslie Evans and nephews Larry Fletcher and Gary, Bob and Jim Rudd.The family extends sincere thanks to the nursing services staff ofMemorial Hospital's Oncology Ward, Home Hospice/VNA, Dr. James McFadden and Dr. Harry Richardson and the staff of Redwood Regional Oncology Center for their professional and tender care. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 17, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. at the Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose. Friends may call at the Daniels Chapel of the Roses on Sunday from9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. February 16, 1997, Press Democrat OBITUARIES Bonnie Paul Bonnie Jean Britschgi Paul, a Sonoma County resident since 1970, died Wednesday at a Santa Rosa hospital after a five year struggle with cancer. She was 78. Family members were at Paul's bedside at the hospital since Feb. 1. Paul was born in San Jose. Her grandfather, William Dougherty, was a pioneer San Jose resident. Paul moved to Santa Rosa from San Jose.The family had made frequent trips to the county to maintain a vineyard in Alexander Valley before becoming permanent residents. Paul was married to her late husband, James Howard "Jim" Paul, for nearly 50 years. She often recalled living in Hollywood in the 1930s when her father, Jack Britschgi, was a member of the Warner Brothers Studios team that invented "talking pictures." Back in San Jose, she finished high school and attended HealdBusiness College. Her greatest joys in life revolved around her family. "She devoted her entire life to her family, wanting everyone to know how important we were to her," said her daughter, Susan Helzer of Santa Rosa. She was a longtime member of the Rose Ladies Auxiliary at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. `"She spent many hours making puppets for childrenin pediatrics and taking children on tours of the hospital," Helzer said. She was also a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Santa Rosa, a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha National Sorority, and a member of Rose Valley Chapter 33 of the Order of Eastern Star. Besides Helzer, Paul is survived by another daughter, LynnMcChristian, also of Santa Rosa, and a grandson, John Helzer of Santa Rosa. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Daniels Chapel ofthe Roses in Santa Rosa. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday atOak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose.
