a. Note:   In Civil War. Rode with Thomas Benton Jackson to Fort Arbucklein the Chickasaw Nation and enlisted in Company C of the 11thTexas Cavalry of the CSA, October 8,1861. In eastern Tennessee,he was captured by Union soldiers at Parrotsville, January 5,1865. He was imprisoned at Fort Delaware and released upontaking the oath of allegiance to the U.S., June 17, 1865, thesame day Thomas Benton Jackson was released from Rock IslandBarracks in Illinois. He came riding home to the family farmnear Gordonsville, Texas, within a few days of his brother,September 1865. In 1900, James sold his holdings in Grayson andCooke Counties and moved to the Paoli-Pauls Valley area of theChickasaw Nation.
